Backroads Coffee & Tea is proud to announce a fundraiser in support of the LoonWatch program at the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute at Northland College. Special to the occasion, Backroads is roasting three hand-selected, gourmet varieties, aptly named for one of Wisconsin's most treasured and revered birds: the loon.
All three varieties are roasted using 100% shade grown Arabica beans from Café Kabuk.

Café Kabuk lies in the foothills of the Volcano "Tacan," just 16 miles from the Guatemalan border amidst the lush hills of the Chiapas Mountain range. The farm is entirely shaded and grows the old varieties of Bourbon and Typica which do best at high altitudes in plenty of shade. The Kabuk farm is 100% shade canopy rich with birds, butterflies, fruit trees and streams.

Fair Trade, Shade Grown Coffee |
Café Kabuk combines traditional farming techniques with technological advances, such as aquapulper, that greatly reduces the use of water used to process and wash coffee. They harvest energy from the water pouring down the mountain to power the machinery that processes their coffee and lights their homes.
There is an obvious sense of respect for the natural order at Café Kabuk, which requires a little more work but the result is rich, full-bodied coffee from a sustainable farm.
